On November 1st, faculty, families, and friends gathered at Saint Andrew’s to celebrate the Feast of All Saints, to feast in honor of those who have passed from death to life.
Our need for nourishment is both physical and spiritual. In a true meal, the soul is nourished as well, for feasting is an expression of communion, of thanksgiving, and of joy. In fact, joy and feast mean the same thing, for the word feast is derived from the Latin festus, which means joy. In addition to a magnificent four-course meal prepared by our chef and served by the Junior class, there were poems, songs, speeches, and much joyful fellowship.
In his banquet address, Fr. Sheahan reminded us that “we are made for sanctity, and sanctity is a friendship with our Lord Jesus Christ. It is sanctifying grace, which is charity in our souls – the love of Our Lord. The Saint Andrew’s boys are starting to perhaps realize this on a natural level through the camaraderie of a boarding school environment. They are sharing a life together. They are sharing a table together. This is friendship – sharing your life with your friend. The more you know, the more you can love. When we know Our Lord better, we can share in His life more. And so on the natural level – grace builds on nature. That’s why Saint Andrew’s starts with the natural side of things. Because once you have a good, solid foundation in the natural, then you can move on to the supernatural.”
Before concluding the evening with the chanting of Compline, we gathered to sing My Comrade, the beautiful folk song we sing as a prayer for the Poor Souls at the close of every banquet.
It is thanks to your generosity that we are able to undertake our work in the formation of souls. Please remember us in your end-of-year giving by making a tax-deductible donation. Be assured of our prayers, and may God reward your kindness!
Freshman Class Patron: Saint Venantius
It is a tradition at Saint Andrew’s Academy for each Freshman class to adopt a class patron, and to present their choice in a speech delivered at the All Saints’ banquet. This year, Freshman Joseph Jones presented Saint Venantius as the Freshman class patron!
